The story of Igimèjí
Kayla Scales (vocals, piano, keys) and Oladipo Oyediran (guitar, vocals, drums) started working together musically in 2016 in North Texas. It started with a couple jam sessions, then before they knew it they had a couple songs. From there, a budding friendship and love forged through musical creativity emerged. In 2017, they moved to Kathmandu, Nepal and started giving performances at a local bar. It was then that Igimèjí was truly born! In 2018, the music duo returned to Dallas-Fort Worth, where they immediately decided to continue the performance career they started in Nepal. Soon they added Jelen Farrow (drums) . Their debut single Magic was released on July 11th, 2020. In spring 2021, Igimèjí crafted and recorded their first EP, Two Trees, which was released on July 11, 2021. Aaron Payton, of Melon Soda and dTb fame, joined on bass and background vocal. Igimèjí performed all across the DFW area, with notable ones being Arts Goggle, 2nd annual Juneteenth Celebration Live at the Levitt, Main Street Arts Fair, and Deep Ellum Arts Fair.
On July 11th 2023, they released Crazy(For You), their highest streamed song to date, which was produced by Loren Moore and mixed and mastered by Collin King.
On July 11th, 2025, Igimèjí released their debut album It's Not A Race. The lead single, Better Things was featured on radio broadcasts across DFW. Saxophonist and flutist Rafael Powell II became the 5th official member of the band. Currently, Igimèjí is writing new material and their music can be heard on KXT 91.7, KTCU, and KUZU LPFM.
